Do you still fear the #hastags and @tags on Twitter? The social media team at Dalen Design has a few Twitter tips to get you started.
1. Want your tweet to appear to the masses? Do not start a tweet with the @ symbol, as these are kept out of the main feed.
2. Until Twitter adds long-form content to the service, users are limited to sharing tweets 140 characters or less. If you can master writing tweets of 100 characters or less, this will provide extra character space for those who share your tweets with @tags or comments.
3. No matter what social media platform(s) you use, try to make use of strategic or trending #hashtags. Twitter offers a visual Trends feed to aid in following existing and popular trends. There are also websites, like www.hashtags.org, dedicated to monitoring up-to-the-minute and emerging trends.
4. Twitter is often criticized for being overwhelming, and it is with good reason. On average, more than 6,000 tweets are tweeted on Twitter per second, meaning more than 500 million tweets are sent per day! Right from the get-go, we recommend taking advantage of a best-kept secret: Twitter Lists.
Twitter Lists are the perfect way to separate content from select groups of people or businesses. Added bonus: Lists can be kept private or made public.
